My name is Ashley Le Quere, I am a London based Pattern Designer and Illustrator.
I also have a huge passion for brush lettering!
During the week I work as an in-house Designer for a giftware company, where I design everything from card and wrapping paper to packaging design and ceramics.
I love the variety of work and the freedom I get there to design and put forward my ideas!
In my spare time I like to take on my own freelance illustration projects, which I fit in around work, I love to keep taking new projects on because I feel like I can create something that it completely my own style.
My usual weekday looks something like this.
Alarm goes off. I am an early riser and like to have a slow morning before the hecticness of the day.
For breakfast, I usually would have made myself some overnight oats the night before (which I can't get enough of at the moment) and have a strong coffee and head back to bed so a little breakfast in bed!
I head out to catch the overground train to work.
I prefer getting the over ground train to the underground because I can see outside, see London starting to wake up! Plus it’s a lot quieter!
I arrive at work.
I design all day on loads of different projects and am usually finished by 3.30 pm.
I jump back on the overground train home.
I usually take this time to create new content for my Instagram, work on projects that I have on or take some time in the garden.
6 pm - 6.30 pm
Time to hit the gym.
I take HIIT (high-intensity interval training) classes which is great for me because they last about 45mins so I can get it done quickly.
I am very lazy when it comes to the gym, so love to get it done quickly! ☺
7 pm - 7.30 pm
This is usually the time that my boyfriend is home from work, so we cook together and sit with housemates, chatting and just relaxing.
I am such an early bird that I like to get to sleep by 10pm (ish). Before then I usually potter and the house, check out how all the plants are doing, shower, laundry and then bed.
Advice for makers
Never give up. If it is what you want and you love it, keep doing it and it will happen in the end. If it hasn’t happened, it's not the end!
From personal experience, It took me years and years of balancing part time jobs, hustling and lots of free work to get where I am.
I almost gave up so many times, having rejection letters and lots of NO’s but it my creative work me so happy I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to give up.
It all worked out in the end for me. I got my dream job this year and some great freelance work and this can happen for you too. Please don’t give up!
